Named for the green, snake-like skin it is said to resemble, serpentine has been a revered mineral used for thousands of years. This soft magnesium silicate can be easily carved and has lent itself to adornment and craft in many cultures. Thought to be a cure for poison in ancient times, many drinking vessels were made from this stone. These old, hand-formed beads were found in E. China and date back well over a century.
