After WW2, some of the munitions factories of Germany and Japan were converted into glass bead factories in an attempt to stimulate the defunct economy, supply the new American market and employ the artists. These small white “rice/melon” style beads were part of that effort. Dated to the 1950’s, they became the vehicle for creative expression rather than destruction.
Bead size approximately 8mm x 5mm. Hole size is approximately .5mm. Beads sold individually.
